JOB ADVERT: Employee Success Manager

MPower (Yaoundé, Cameroon 70-100%)

MPower Ventures, a pan-African fintech and impact start-up (www.mpower.africa), is looking for an independent and entrepreneurial mid-level HR professional to join our team in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

This is a global role and the candidate will support our Management Team as well as our local teams in Sub Sahara Africa. This is an opportunity in a fascinating and rapidly growing field and in a start-up environment. MPower is building a platform supplying and financing small scale decentralized solar infrastructure in emerging markets via a B2B2C partnership model. Our solar products are accompanied by a software as well as financing solutions that allows customers to pay in monthly installments.

Your areas of work will include:

  • Outlining and improving foundational policies and procedures and their implementation to provide employees with clear guidance and structure for the work environment. These policies and processes give employees a point of reference for standard business conduct (e.g. recruitment documents, hours of work & overtime, employee leave policy, payroll procedure, employee performance records, social media policy).
  • Supporting recruiting processes and onboarding of new employees (with hiring managers) which will infuse a better structure to the entire talent journey.
  • Ensuring that new hires are welcomed into their team, trained and given the development they need and further having a point of contact to go to with any “people-based” concerns.
  • Organizing trainings on various topics incl. on IT tools such as the shared drive, internal communication and other tools.
  • Development of cultural and online team events.
  • Support the management for growth incl. supporting with hiring plans, conducting research, updating the organizational chart and creating scalable processes (e.g. hiring and onboarding).
  • Ensuring that important records and documentation are kept in order (incl. team list, employment contracts, business paperwork, resumes, performance evaluations, leave, accidents and more)
  • Exploring HR software programs and tools to streamline and improve the HR process.
  • Supporting management in nurturing an inclusive work environment which leads to happier employees, more innovation, and a stronger desire to remain with the company, all of which improve the bottom line. 

Required skills would include:

  • A demonstrated capacity to take initiative, overcome challenges and work collaboratively through relevant work or project experience.
  • First work experience is mandatory (> 2 years)
  • Experience in an HR role is mandatory
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in business administration, organizational leadership, general management or a related field is desired.
  • Excellent knowledge of office package (especially PowerPoint and excel)
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proficient knowledge in French is mandatory.
  • Team player and eager to learn new tools and roll-up sleeves to get the job done. You will be able to take ownership for your ideas contributing your own ideas and opinions and experience a start-up environment where innovative thinking is required and self-initiative appreciated.

The position is available immediately and is Yaoundé (Cameroon) based. In exceptional cases, a remote position or a position in another MPower office can be discussed.
