The Georgetown University Center for Global Health Practice and Impact (CGHPI) serves countries to improve their population health and wellbeing and to safeguard against health-related threats by advancing the use of evidence and human-centered enterprise architecture on the path towards achieving equity and social justice. To achieve this mission, we catalyze the uptake, spread, and implementation of innovations; triangulate data from different sources, and tailor visualization of the information for each audience; design and implement integrated service delivery models; support communities of practice to inform policy and practice through efficient data use and horizontal and vertical collaboration; disseminate best practices and evidence globally through open source learning networks; build global, collaborative, multi-disciplinary, and interprofessional networks; undertake research that is informed by local needs; and invest in local leadership to own, provide oversight, and sustain implemented interventions. Georgetown University, through CGHPI, has recently received an award from U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (U.S. CDC) through funding from the U.S President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) to support HIV response efforts in Cameroon for achievement of HIV epidemic control to implement a program titled Translating Data and Evidence into Impact (TIDE). As a result, CGHPI is recruiting for the following program implementation positions. All prospective candidates must be fluent in French and working knowledge of English. These positions will be based in Yaoundé or Bertoua. CGHPI is operating in Cameroon as Georgetown Global Health LLC (GGHC)

Finance

Position Title: Accounting Clerk

Position:  Accounting Clerk

Reports to: Finance Manager

Location of Work:  Yaoundé, Cameroon

Job Overview:  This position performs a variety of general accounting support tasks in within the program’s finance unit.  S/he will also be responsible for recording business transactions, entering daily data into the general ledger system, ensuring files are complete and maintained as needed, and directly assists other accounting personnel.  The accounting clerk will also assist and collaborate with the Finance Manager and Accountant on financial matters and ensure accuracy of all financial reporting.  In addition, the position holder will generally be responsible for compliance oversight of the awards.

Specific Duties:

  • Perform accounting and clerical functions to support supervisors.
  • Research, track, and resolve accounting problems, and investigate questionable data.
  • Compile and sort invoices and checks.
  • Verify the accuracy of invoices and other accounting documents or records.
  • Update and maintain accounting journals, ledgers and other records detailing financial business transactions (e.g., disbursements, expense vouchers, receipts, accounts payable).
  • Ensure daily posting of transaction into accounting software.
  • Process travel and activities advances to staff and ensuring advance reconciliation in a timely manner and processing expense reports;
  • Ensure appropriate and accurate filling (physical and electronical) of all the financial documents and vouchers generated within finance department.
  • Ensure financial procedures are correctly followed in incurring expenses in line with organization approval processes.
  • Prepare all relevant voucher and payment documents and ensure appropriate signature are in place before incurring expense.
  • Accomplish other tasks as requested by the Finance Manager, Country Program Director, and various headquarters staff

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Basic Degree in accounting (ACCA or CPA will be an added advantage) with a minimum of one-year post qualification experience (working experience with International Organization will be an added advantage)
  • Must be computer literate with an experience in at least an Accounting Package; knowledge of QuickBooks accounting package will be an added advantage
  • Excellent knowledge of other computer software, MS Office and Excel especially
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Accounting procedures and principles
  • Must demonstrate a good understanding of Cameroon business environment
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must be flexible and be able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must demonstrate attention to detail and ability to multi-task
  • Must demonstrate ethical behavior when dealing with sensitive financial information
  • Must demonstrate high level of accuracy and efficiency
  • Ability to communicate in French fluently; ability to communicate in English will be an added advantage but not mandatory
